Today, I’m going to introduce my favourite grape variety. As someone who prefers lighter wines, I appreciate the subtle flavours that allow for easy sipping without overwhelming tannins. if you want to know about Cabernet Sauvignon, you can click here!
1. Flavours
Red cherry, Cranberry, Mushroom, Clove (reminiscent of hawthorn cakes) Hibiscus? (Natural floral scent, typically characterized by a naturally crisp and refreshing fragrance)
Mastering these aspects will give you a good understanding of Pinot Noir.
These flavours are based on the “WINE FOLLY” website and can be referenced there.
Feel free to use your own memorable adjectives.
For example, I often find a hint of “Chinese red envelope” aroma in Burgundy Pinot Noir.
The mentioned “mushroom” flavours actually often occur in aged wines.
2. Characteristics:
Sweetness – Dry
Body – Medium
Tannins – Low
Acidity – High
Alcohol – 11.5~13.5% ABV
With its thin skin, it has particularly low tannins, offering a light and delicate mouthfeel.
3. Which country are known for Pinot Noir?
The top three Pinot Noir producing countries are France, United States, New Zealand and Germany.
Showcasing this image to provide you with a glimpse of the countries below.
Pinot Noir is a popular grape variety!! However, the taste varies depending on where they are grown~~~
Actually, knowing these key countries is enough, they are also my favourite places to grow Pinot Noir! Especially France Burgundy.
4. Food Pairing
Roast turkey
Mushroom Risotto with Truffle Mousse
Tomato Sauce Pasta
Salmon
Salmon and Pinot Noir has become a popular pairing, and it’s best when the salmon is cooked as simply as possible.
Pinot Noir makes it a fantastic match for a variety of dishes, its nuanced flavours and moderate tannins allow it to complement the flavours in many foods. Dishes like turkey and mushrooms often pair well due to the wine’s adaptability, and with salmon or tuna, the preparation style and Pinot Noir’s style play crucial roles in the pairing experience. It’s a delightful exploration to find the perfect match based on the specific Pinot Noir you’re enjoying and the flavours of your meal.
Finally, tell me do you like Pinot Noir? Which dish do you think is good match with it?
